Nestled in the turquoise waters of the Celebes Sea, off the coast of Borneo, our Seaventures Dive Rig offers divers from around the world completely unique experiences. Our converted oil rig allows divers to stay right at the heart of these incredible waters and make the most of their diving holidays. In this Blog, we’ll take a deep dive into what a day on the Seaventures Rig entails.
Mornings on the Rig
As the sun rises over the horizon, casting a golden glow on the surrounding waters, the day begins on the rig. Once our divers are up and ready, we dig into a hearty breakfast – fuel for the day ahead! Our breakfast buffets include international and Malaysian breakfast classics for those who want to try the incredible local cuisine.
Divers who are heading out to dive in the Sipadan Marine Park are the first to depart from the rig on one of our comfortable dive boats. Our Sipadan trips include two dives at two of Sipadan’s most iconic sites! After the dives we head back to the rig for lunch and the boat ride back is always filled with enthusiastic chatter about the dives and the most impressive marine life sightings.
For divers who are not diving in Sipadan, our second dive boat leaves between 8.30 and 9.00am and heads over to either Mabul or Kapalai. Mabul is home to some of the rarest and most unusual marine critters on earth – an underwater macro photographers paradise! After two dives, the boats head back to the rig. The dive deck provides the perfect spot for divers to catch up with each other and share stories of their dives. With friendly camaraderie, guests recount their experiences and exchange tips before lunch.
Lunch on the rig is always a vibrant and colourful affair as divers refuel with our generous buffet. All of our meals include options for vegetarians and vegans as well as the freshest seafood and locally sourced produce that makes our dishes sing. For foodie divers, our dining options are one of the many highlights of staying with us!
Afternoons on the Rig
As the day progresses, it’s time to head out for the third dive of the day in either Mabul or Kapalai. It’s time for more marine life spotting and new discoveries. Our experienced dive guides lead the way, pointing out some of the extra special hidden treasures that reside here.
After diving we once again head back to the rig and divers have the opportunity to relax and recharge before dinner – or night diving. We have the highest point in Mabul – our sun deck which has 360 degree views of Mabul and the water. The sun deck provides the perfect setting to soak up some rays, enjoy panoramic views of the sea, relax with a good book, and perhaps catch a glimpse of passing dolphins or soaring sea eagles.
Evenings on the Rig
As the day draws to a close, the rig transforms into a hub of social activity. If guests want to sample some of the local life on land, our boats are ready to transport divers over to Mabul for a stroll around before heading back to the rig for dinner – another beautifully chef cooked buffet. When we have larger groups visiting, we love nothing more than to fire up the barbecue and invite live bands on to the rig to perform too!
After dinner, divers can while away the evening in our games room that has Mahjong, gin rummy, ping pong and even a snooker table. For those who want to enjoy a livelier evening, dancing on the deck is always an option too!
As the night winds down, tired but fulfilled divers retreat to our cosy cabins for a comfortable night’s sleep. Dreams are filled with visions of what the next day will bring underwater!
Unlimited House Reef Diving
For divers who prefer to make their own schedule, unlimited house reef diving is included with every stay. Diving the house reef is a unique experience in itself – using the hydraulic lift for entries and exits, exploring the pillars of the rig, and of course, discovering the critters and fish that call the rig home!
